Izzy Comes Up Big

In the Yard with an Angel update. Our offense did a great job today and helped us finish the series against Tampa with a W. Kazmir has been hot and he threw a great game today. To get four runs off a guy pitching that well is a pretty good job and we needed all of them today. Izzy came up with the big hit in the 8th to get us in front. He's been on fire and his hit today was exactly what we needed. He really goes about his business like a pro. Never complains about a thing and no matter where he is in the lineup or what position he plays, he shows up each day. He is a key component to our club. When you're going against a guy who's as hot as Kazmir has been and going as good as he's been you definitely don't want to give in to those guys. They got a run early and there were some spots I could have given in and thrown a fastball, but threw breaking balls instead just because one run may be the difference. I think the way I pitch, velocity doesn't mean a whole lot. I've learned to move the ball both ways these days and throw breaking pitches for strikes, so it doesn't mean as much as it would for some guys. I've been going pretty good. I've been keeping us in games and we've been able to win some of them. It's too early to get too excited, just got to keep it going.

So like what do you guys do after a victory? I am curious to know this stuff. Do you guys go out to a fancy restaurant daily together or something?

And if so, which teammate(s) do you go out with the most?

  after a W, we are definitely more spirited as you can imagine. If its a day game, I like to go and grab a good dinner somewhere, especially if it's on the road. You can usually find me with Weaver, Napoli, Mathis and Shields.

WOW!!! What more can I say...Another great outing! You are definately back in the swing of things. Your delivery is just fabulous. You and Napoli work really well together. Todays win was one of your best. Kazmir has nothing on you. Thanks for the "tip" after your finish. Couldn't be prouder to say "That's my Boy!!!"

Now we need to get Nap back in the game with some hits and all will be well in Angels Land.

What a matchup! Man how was that game not nationally televised??? Both dominating teams, both SP's the ace of the staff...sure lived up to the billing! Nicely done Big John!

What a great game you pitched. You are one of the best. Kazmir was so mad it looked like he was going to cry. JOHN do you happen to know when your " In my own words" will be on? I missed your life story the last time it was on. Oh and I just love your bobblehead. Thanks Donna S Dana Point

  I'm not sure when that will run, they usually run those segments before or after Angel games on FSN. The bobblehead was a thrill, I couldn't believe how much it looked like me. They had the mole and everything. They definitely did their homework.

John, I picked up your bobble head the other night, and then was lucky enough to make it to yesterday's game as well...my wife's company had a group outing to the game, and she scored an extra ticket for me. You really handled that first inning quite well. It looked for a while that you'd wind up on the wrong end of things, as Kazmir was perfect for 4 2/3, but the team came back & got you a lead eventually. Were you disappointed to get pulled when you did? Also, it would be great if you could post about you prepare for a game (without giving away trade secrets) - do you keep any of your own personal notes? Do you analyze your sabermetric stats, the way Brian Bannister of the Royals does? Thanks for your updates!

  No, I wasn't mad getting pulled, Scioscia is the manager and he knows what's. Plus, I am coming back from an injury so we are still monitoring that. As far as pre-game stuff, I usually visualize the lineup in my head at the hotel the night before I pitch. I remember what may or may not have worked the last time I faced that team and try to make mental adjustments

You always seem nice and shaved, you know gentleman like, plus you're perfect for the game, it loves you! And it seems you have great fans, that really appreciate you. As a friend it's what you would want for another friend, sometimes you only want their happiness.

That was a great win off of a very good lefty. I loved how you settled down and didn't let an early run faze you. Getting out of a very tough inning with only one run scored, then shutting down a hot-hitting team, is a mark of a true ace. You and the Angels entire staff have been exceptional, and a pleasure to watch. It doesn't seem to matter how hot the opponents are, the Angels staff simply cools them down!

Izzy has been terrific. He's a solid infielder and has such a great, level swing. I'm not surprised he's been so clutch. And with Figgy's return, Kendrick getting his timing down, and Vlad being ... well, Vlad once again, I'm sure the runs will start coming in bunches. That will be a scary thought for the rest of the league.

Whats up John? What are your thoughts on instant replay? I think it'll ruin the game by turning it into a no rythym game like football. How often does a team question a homerun call anyway?(maybe once a year) These whiny ass New York fans need to shut up and deal with it because its part of the game.

  Not sure about instant replay we will have to see how it plays out. It will most likely be a good thing to correct controversial calls.
